Today was probably the least eventful day I've had yet. I woke up around 11, showered and read a little bit, and then fell back asleep until 4. I don't think I left the dorm room until about 5. I think my relative unenthusiasm for exploring Amsterdam has made me less likely to get moving but therefore able to catch up on sleep, since I've been getting nowhere near enough most nights. I got dinner with a Ugandan guy and a Swiss guy from last night (Swiss guy was actually in Brussels too) at a Sicilian place in the western half of the city. I've decided that I like the western half of the city much better - it seems that people actually live there and the city is more than just a tourist trap. There isn't much to do, but it's very pretty. Swiss guy tells me that I didn't miss much by sleeping all day since he was unable to do much of anything through the absolutely massive crowds of tourists that flooded the streets all afternoon.
I finally got hit by a cyclist. It was a minor incident and neither of us were hurt at all, but it could easily have been worse. I wasn't paying much attention but she was cutting around me in a way that I think was very stupid so I don't feel bad about it. After dinner we got a smaller group of people from last night to go back out again. We met up with an Australian woman from last night and some of her friends at a bar in the west half of the city, where we spent the rest of the evening. Tomorrow morning I'm going to rent bikes with her and the Swiss to try and see some of the Dutch countryside. I think on Monday I might hop over to Haarlem or Utrecht, though the French woman from Rotterdam texted me today to say she'll be coming through then too. I'll have to see how things shake out.
