After going home last night, I met a few people in the common room of the hostel and ended up spending a few more hours up with them. It was tough to be up in time for that walking tour with Lindsey since it was pretty early, but I made do. These walking tours all bill themselves as "free", though they of course are absolutely expecting payment. It was cool to get a little more context about all the ruins that are everywhere. The tour was very well done, though I wish we'd been able to do this earlier on - our guide had a ton of great recommendations for the area that would've been helpful early in my time here. He mentioned a custardy bread thing that the people who'd picked me up hitchhiking had also talked about, so after the tour ended Lindsey and I headed out to find some. It wasn't really what I'd expected, since I'd imagined something almost like a danish but with a custard filling. In reality, the whole pastry was a consistent slightly custardy texture and chopped into many small bits. Though not what I expected, it was very good and apparently quite regional to Thessaloniki. After, we got lunch at a very good restaurant in the area. We of course couldn't read any of the names on Google Maps, so I picked something almost completely at random. It was a strange almost cafeteria style place reminiscent of where I got lunch in Monday, except the food was actually excellent rather than just incredibly cheap (it still wasn't at all expensive though - had this been my first destination on this trip, I'd have been blown away by the prices being so low). They gave us some free desserts and I was incredibly full, so I went back to the hostel and passed out to catch up on sleep.
I met Oscar after I woke up and we got a few drinks before I headed to bed for the night. My bus to Sofia isn't until the late afternoon tomorrow, so I'll have some time tomorrow to see things that I haven't gotten to yet. I'm going to miss Greece. Knowing good people here on top of the city being really interesting has made this one of my favorite stops in a while. It's also been nice to just spend some time in one place, since the last time I spent more than 2 nights in a city was Belgrade, and I didn't really like Belgrade.
