I got up relatively early and ate leftovers from the previous night's dinner before meeting up with Oscar by the old town. The waterfront of the lake is nice, but if I'm being honest it doesn't really live up to the hype of this place. It's not that exciting in the off season I guess. There are some cool old streets, though in general these feel very much targeted to tourists and don't have that much appeal to me. The best part of this city is the ancient Macedonian theater that's remarkably well preserved, and is one of the only actually Macedonian archeological sites in the country. It's still in use and it's cool to imagine that the construction was first used for that purpose many thousands of years ago. There was also a nice church and another giant fortress, but they charged entry and I hear there isn't really much to see from the inside anyway. At least it had a great view from the outside.
I took a nap in the latter half of the afternoon and then met up with Oscar again in the evening. We went to an Irish pub for a few extremely cheap drinks before going back to our respective hostels, but as soon as I got back in a group of people were going back to that same pub. I ended up going out again with them for a while and then coming back and making ramen. Today was the first day that I've noticed I've forming in a city and I had to properly bundle up for the cold.
Tomorrow will be my second attempt at hitchhiking. There's a bus to a relatively nearby town called Bitola, where I'll try to get a ride across the border to a Greek town called Florina where I can bus to Thessaloniki. Apparently this is a pretty common route and people rarely have difficulty getting a ride between those two cities since it's not very far and there's really nowhere else to go. Looking forward to it.
